Ageless Style: Fashion Tips for Every Stage of Life
Ageless Fashion
Welcome back Friends! This week, we're focusing on ageless style. Now, I can definitely be delusional about my age at times. I always think of myself as so young and hip still, comparing myself to people a decade younger than me. Until I went to brunch the other day with my sister at a more upbeat bar in downtown and was surrounded by twenty year old’s. My delusional veil fell and my age smacked me right in the face. I suddenly was very aware that I am a 37 year old nursing my one mimosa because I’ll be returning to my 3 young children soon. All while watching multiple groups of Twenty-somethings order their bottomless mimosas with no inhibitions holding them back from each sip. But even with apparent changes in lifestyles that come with age, fashion and style to me will always and forever will be….ageless.
Embracing and celebrating our age with confidence is the key to looking fabulous at every stage of life. In this issue, we'll go through some fashion tips to help us adapt our wardrobe as we move through the years, all while staying true to our personal style.
Ageless Style: Fashion Tips for Every Stage of Life
Age is just a number. Each decade doesn’t need to have different rules that need to be followed for your style. A question I get a lot….”How should I dress for my age?” “Am I too old to wear these edgy pieces?” “Can I pull this off at my age?” “Does this make me look old?” My answer to this is almost always the same….”as long as you wear what you love, that’s all that matters”. If you love an edgy moto jacket….I don’t see why you can’t wear that from your Twenty First Birthday all the way to your dying day. BUT Fashion is ever-evolving, and so are we. As we age, our style preferences, body shapes, confidence and insecurities may change. So lets go through a few Fashion Tips that are ageless and interchangeable so that no matter what decade you’re in you can always revisit to bring you back around to your own personal style….whatever that may be at that time.

Revisit your fits: Learn or brush up on different fits for any category in your closet whether that’s tees, shirts, jeans, pants or coats. Figure out what works best for your current shape and style. Now maybe that doesn’t change at all. For me, maybe in ten years oversized boxy tees won’t drape on me the same way. Ten years previous to now I never wore oversized tees because I wanted to show off my taut little body in form fitting tees. But in this decade you’d never catch me in a feminine cut tee that curves in at the waist and has high cut sleeves. It’s just about always being aware of what you prefer and being ok with change if it’s needed.
Find your colors: I’m not a believer in that you can only wear certain colors for your skin tone, hair, eyes, etc. But I do think it’s important to always be identifying what colors you feel best in. It took me a long time to be self aware enough to realize I love black. That when I wear it, I feel beautiful yet fierce. Technically, I don’t think I’m suppose to wear black with my pail complexion……ah well. But, maybe next decade I won’t feel the same way about black (highly doubt it, but ya know, for example sake). So if you’re feeling off, reevaluate your color palette and experiment with new hues. Don't be afraid to step outside your comfort zone and embrace vibrant colors (she says wearing black) that bring out your inner radiance.
Invest in quality fabrics: I know I sound like a broken record because I fit this tip into pretty much every bit of content I put out there. But that’s how important it is. This will never not be a priority at any age. Quality materials not only look and feel better but also tend to last longer. Natural fabrics and well constructed pieces are usually the way to go as they wear the best over time. But even fabrics like Lyocell, which is semi-synthetic, can be a great alternative.
Prioritize comfort and fit: Ageless style is about looking good and feeling great. It probably took me three decades of my life before I understood that comfort and the correct fit were essential to this. I’d wear a suuuuper tight fitting pair of jeans out to the bars. And guuurl, I looked good. But an hour into the night I’d get acid reflux because of the pressure on my stomach….haha true story! There is zero chance of feeling sexy when you have a bad case of heartburn. Take it from me, ensure your clothing fits well and doesn't restrict your movement. Clothes can be form fitting yet comfortable if you take your time finding the right fits for your body.
There were days I’d wear a really chic sweater that looked great on but was made of acrylic. So what happened? I’d itch and sweat all day. Again, who wants to stand next to an itching sweaty hot box at the team meeting at work…..nobody. I was well aware of that which then made me self conscious. Prioritize comfortable fabrics and fit when selecting your wardrobe pieces and you’ll always feel great physically and stylistically.

Cook with Classy but sprinkle with Trends: I think you can get by with only Classy style, nothing wrong with that. But I do feel like sprinkling in some trends will help you to feel re inspired each decade, feel current and refresh your investment pieces that are the core to your wardrobe. Mixing classic and contemporary pieces allows you to showcase your personal style while staying on-trend.

At the end of the day, If you're unsure about how to adapt your style as you age, consider seeking guidance from a trusted friend, family member, or professional stylist. They can provide valuable insights and help you make informed decisions about your wardrobe. But always, always, always make sure to finalize any of your style changes or refreshes with, “Do I love this? Do I feel the best in this?” Remember, age is just a number and it doesn’t get to dictate who you are or your style.

Who doesn't love a denim shirt! They are timeless, versatile, style universal and go with everything. This is another option that is size inclusive.

Your Weekly Homework
This week challenge yourself to find your signature style (if you haven’t already). This is easier than you think, so here we go:
-Go to your closet and without overthinking, pick out your favorite look, your number one go to. Then lay that outfit on your bed or hang on a separate rolling rack.
-Then after that, choose your next favorite outfit and lay it out.
-Third, choose another outfit you gravitate to.
-After you choose your three looks and have them all together. Look at what they have in common, what different styles are included, do any of the pieces overlap, are the a similar silhouette?
-Likely you’ll find that there are some denominators that make up your signature style.
EX: I figured out my go to outfits were usually a pair of jeans with a top tucked in to the waist with an open layer like a cardigan or blazer framing the look. Then usually combined with an edgy pair of sneakers or black boots. Once I made this realization it helped me to embrace my style and feel more decisive and confident in my daily decisions. Now obviously I do have other outfits that don’t fit exactly within that but there is always some common thread (no pun intended) running through and that is my signature style.
Track I Am Enjoying
This song empowers me. I think of it as other people's judgement- "you don't own me". I listen to it loud in the car by myself and belt out the lyrics anytime I need to remind myself I am a badass!
