Confidence for Life with Fashion

The Confidence-Boosting Power of Fashion

Ello Luv’s! Just feeling that London mood because we’re talking about how Fashion affects our confidence…..and who’s more confident than a Londoner! With those tailored suits, edgy trainers (that’s sneakers in America) and the effortless trenches. So lets dive into the topic of confidence and how fashion can empower you to conquer life with style. Cheers!

The Confidence-Boosting Power of Fashion

Now I’m no psychologist but I can definitely vouch for the relationship between fashion and self-confidence. Our wardrobe choices can greatly impact our emotional state and influence how we present ourselves to the world. By understanding how we can dress for confidence, we can harness that power of fashion to boost our self-esteem and make a lasting impression on those we encounter.

The Science of Fashion and Confidence

Studies have shown that our clothing choices can affect our cognitive processes and emotions. This phenomenon is known as "enclothed cognition," which suggests that the clothes we wear can influence our thoughts, attitudes, and behaviors. Ever notice how when you’re sick and you take a shower and get dressed in something other than your pajamas, you all of a sudden feel better. When we feel good in what we're wearing, we're more likely to exude confidence, perform better in our daily tasks, and positively influence how others perceive us. This is why when I get asked by someone what they should wear on a date, I answer with “what ever you feel best in”. Even if that means wearing a simple jeans and t-shirt.

Finding Your Confidence-Boosting Style

Identify your power pieces: We all have certain clothing items that make us feel more confident, whether it's a tailored blazer, a flattering dress, or a pair of statement shoes. Pay attention to the pieces in your wardrobe that make you feel your best, and incorporate them into your outfits when you need a confidence boost. You’ve heard the phrase “Power Suit” before. Well there is a reason for the name. The suit is usually made of quality materials and is custom tailored to fit the wearer perfectly. With the added air of sophistication it’s understandable that this person may feel that inner power grow as their confidence beams in such a suit. We all have a version of this “Power Suit”.

Find your colors: Now I know I’m a bit of a boring Betty when it comes to colors. I’m a black, white and gray gal. I discovered years ago that those are the colors I feel best in. Especially black, it’s my power color. But that doesn’t mean it has to be the same for you. Take a deep dive into your own wardrobe and investigate what colors and patterns are instill your power. The colors and patterns we choose can evoke specific emotions and affect our mood.

Comfort is key: I remember back in school when I would wear a sweater that made me itch all day….I always felt so off on those days. Confidence often stems from feeling comfortable in our clothes. Invest in high-quality, well-fitted garments that make you feel at ease, allowing you to focus on your tasks and interactions without being distracted by discomfort.

Find your signature outfit formula: Find a specific outfit that drums up the confidence is great for a day. But find a formula that can be replicated multiple different ways and you’ll feel confident always. Repetition is a great tool to build confidence and surprisingly further creativity. With more creativity, results in more confidence, with more confidence, results in more creativity….you see where I’m going with this? By identifying your personal preferences and building a formula or two or three, you'll be able to effortlessly create outfits that reflect your unique identity and boost your self-esteem.

Find that Power in your Fashion

When we dress with intention and prioritize our self-confidence, we create a positive feedback loop: feeling confident in our appearance can lead to increased self-assurance in other areas of our lives.

So the next time you think “ah well, nobody will see me today it doesn’t matter what I wear”….take a moment to remind yourself the effect your fashion choice, or the lack there of, can have on your mood, perspective, decisions and ultimately the outcome of your day. Go grocery shopping in stilettos, go pick up the kids in your designer jeans and combat boots, wear the Loafers instead of a basic pair of sneakers. What triggers that confidence for you? Find it, wear it!! What is your Power Suit?

Quick Tips for Everyday Chic

Know your measurements: Well-fitted clothes can significantly enhance your confidence. So knowing your measurements are key when choosing your sizes.

Figure out your fits: I feel like a broken record, but research, try on, experiment. KNOW ALL THE FITS out there! And figure out which ones you enjoy wearing and make you feel like the best version of yourself. Remember tight fitting is not always flattering and oversized can sometimes be slimming.

Practice good posture: Oh I’m sorry, I forgot who I was talking to for a second. It’s something I’m always working on to improve myself because standing tall is the ultimate styling tool to exude confidence.

Jumpsuits are bold and exude that confidence. This one in particular is comfortable because of the 100% cotton and elongating with the vertical stripes.
