Change Nothing for your Winter to Spring Wardrobe

As the temperatures begin to warm up and the days get longer, many of us start to think about transitioning our wardrobe from winter to spring. However, I'm here to argue that we shouldn't be so quick to pack away our cozy sweaters and winter boots just yet. Instead, why not try to get creative with your winter wardrobe?

Now you know I love to layer it up in Winter. One reason is because I love the fun of playing with pieces to create dimension. However, I like to choose winter pieces that are warm yet breathable and body temp moderating so that when it comes to Spring, I don't have to 'fling' my favorite pieces just yet....so. Here's a few ways you can keep your Winter Wardrobe for Spring.

Thick Sweaters can be worn with a t-shirt or tank top underneath. When heading out the door no extra layer needed. Maybe even add a belt to cinch in the waist for a fresh shapely spring look. Or layer a light jacket or blazer over it if you're a wuss like me and need the extra warmth.

Light Layers are key for me because I love the layered up look, even in Spring. So, take a winter base layer like a cotton long sleeve turtleneck, normally I wear these under thick sweaters in winter. But this time add a cotton button up over top, either open or buttoned. Then top it off with a blazer. Again, if you're a ninnigans (yes that's a made up word of mine) like me, then put a light cotton cardigan under the blazer. This is just an example. Whatever light layers you have, layer 'em up or layer them down to your preference.

Boots in my opinion are a year round shoe....ok, in summer they make a very rare appearance, but Spring, they are still very relevant. How? Light socks, cropped jeans/pants or breezy outfits like dresses and skirts (which I don’t wear, but you might.

If you do feel the need to buy something new for spring, consider investing in high-quality, timeless pieces that you can wear year round and for years to come. Look for clothing made from natural materials such as organic cotton or recycled wool. These fabrics are breathable and temperature moderating so they can easily be layered up or layered down.

So, as we welcome the spring season, let's challenge ourselves to change nothing about our wardrobe and instead find new ways to make it work for us. Who knows, you may even discover a new favorite outfit in the process.

Quick Tips for Everyday Chic

  • If an outfit doesn’t feel right, try changing out one piece with a contrasting style, it’s counterpoint. For example trade a simple Cardigan for a Moto Jacket, this will give you a fresh perspective.

  • When choosing a pair of sneakers go for a statement or edgy sneaker (non conventional). This way when you add it to an outfit it will elevate the look rather than take away from it. Who says you can’t be comfortable and stylish?!

  • Have a favorite statement hat on hand for each season. For me it’s a Fisherman’s Beanie in the winter and Large brim hat for Summer. This way on the bad hair days, no make up days, blah days (you know the ones)- you throw on the hat and bing-bang-boom-effortlessly chic.

Favorite Fashion Finds

A few things I am loving this week:

Eileen Fisher Organic Trench Coat. Great quality and sustainable materials. Good piece for light layering for Spring.

Citizens of Humanity Pony Boy Utility Pant. Keeping it breezy with a breathable fabric and effortless slouch for the Spring and Summer.

Nike Air Huarache Craft Sneakers. Because I want these sneakers but promised myself I wouldn't buy any sneakers this season.....these are a perfect example of a statement sneaker

Your Weekly Homework

Pick your favorite five pieces from your wardrobe and style them completely differently to how you usually do. You can use whatever you need from the rest of your pieces, just make the five your focus to style around. Experiment with layering, different ways of tucking in shirts, or play with contrasting style moods—-sophisticated with casual, conventional with edgy, etc. Take a photo of your outfit and share it.
